I don't know what happened to R&B music. But it gradually got worse...and now I don't think it will ever be as good as it used to be.

Dead at people sayin brandy and alicia are the one still makin rnb, Human and As i am are pure pop album.
and if yall blame beyoncé for the end of rnb, it just shows that beyoncé create a sound(pop and rnb) that others follow. destiny's child really made the rnb big worlwide and after that we see all the pop artists goin to this sound from justin , britney, christina,...

Beyonce can get R&B but she's not R&B most of the time. She's HIP-HOP or Pop most of the time.

1. Bubblegum pop did destroy R&B just like alternative music killed grunge. Its still there but like Irvy said with people wanting more mindless music, the artists had to deliver it in order to sell. I think R&B can make a resurgence if artists and producers actually took the time to create it and force us to like it. Stop dumbing down the music!!!
2. Beyonce is pop, don't let Dangerously In Love fool ya... with the right music anybody can front as R&B. She's only R&B with DC with the exception of Survivor. LOL
3. **** TLC, En' Vogue is the greatest girl group of all time.
4. Brandy has sold out to electronica/pop T-Pain-ish album, hell she did it first with Full Moon. All the autotune & vocoder on that overproduced album is a MESS. Alicia's album has more of a world sound with elements of rock, singer/songwriter adult contemporary, reggae and pop mixed into her R&B.

hip hop killed it. when everybody started using hip hop beats and rappers on their songs, that was the end of it. i wish something would kill hip hop. it sucks.

1. True
2. True
3. False
4. Boy PLEASE. Brandy has always had R&B vocals, but even her debut had pop and R&B songs on it. NSN was clearly a pop smash. FM was very creative. How could she have sold out when no artist in her group was doing **** like that? No one called Aaliyah a sellout btw..
Monica sold out though.

I'm just not understanding anyone's replies for this. A single artist, or more than one artist can not destroy a whole genre. The only thing that's the cause of the loss of R&B are the "Consumers/Target Audience/People". Now, if people chose to listen to Pop over R&B, than that is still them, you can't blame the other artist. The death of R&B is and was people not supporting the "R&B" artist, like by not buying their albums & singles. If they not making money, they can't survive in the music industry and put out good music, which you all call "True R&B". When consumers let "True" R&B artist like (And this is me looking @ who you all said yall consider R&B": Monica, Brandy, Ashanti, Janet, and etc... Flop, that was the end of R&B.

Oh please. R&B is dead because NO ONE with a big enough audience is doing it the way it used to be done. It all sounds like repetitive and recycled mess.
And anyone with a brain knows Brandy, and Janet DEFINITELY aren't R&B artists.

Brandy is a R&B artist, her instrumentals may sometimes be Pop, but everything about her is R&B. The use of so much artistic harmony and the lyrics she uses, her music never really came across as pop like a Ciara or Beyonce.
And what's up with this R&B is DEAD crap? Things can't EVOLVE or change?
