Prism has sold 3.3 million copies and over 20 million singles, that's equivalent to 5.3 million albums sold. Why is that worse than Beyonce's last album which has sold 3.4 million copies but only 4 million singles?

Because that means Katy Perry reached out to more people, yet they weren't interested enought/didn't like the material enough to buy her album. With Bey it was the contrary. She reach out less people, but the people that listened to her singles were impressed enough to buy the whole package.
Something similar happened with Gaga. Double of the people who bought Applause bought Roar, yet Prism and ARTPOP opened with similar numbers. That indicates more people liked Applause than people liked Roar.
Being an album seller means you have more star power and you also release music of quality.
