I'm sure it was known that they almost dated a year before they actually had but she thought better of it and that's what inspired the track. Not everything she ever writes about is literally what happened, but is inspired by events.

I agree with this. I think in general they should leave openers and closers out of the whole promo game. It's just more fun to listen to an album the first time not knowing how it'll open or close. With that being said, after hearing this song I knew that it'd be probably end up being one of the promo singles.

Yeah I think the first track is a good choice for a promo single (sans its being an opener). Having a top 5 is difficult after only hearing the songs once nearly two weeks ago but it was definitely one that I wanted to hear again. It was pretty different for Taylor, from what I remember but it was a good time indeed. Just a really good pop song that makes you happy.

Nah that's not what I meant. Simply that I thought it would work well as a promo single. Something catchy and different that will get people talking that feels like it could work as a promo single and not simply an album track.
