I don't see why they would expect big revenue from this. It provides a very simple, yet cool, service. It's like a glorified music forum so the idea of having a website track your music plays won't seem useful to everybody.

I've been using it since 2006 and it has almost a decade of my scrobbles!
But I guess I'm not in denial anymore, I've been hearing the rumors about the site closing and I guess everything ends at some point. I just would like to have my data available to download to have all those scrobbles as a memory.

It's only a matter of time before Spotify releases a new feature we can use to track our play counts though.

Last.fm has been a consistent sinking ship since like 2008, it could have been big, it could have achieved what Spotify did before Spotify itself even existed, but the people behind it could never be bothered.

I could see Last.fm & Spotify becoming even closer partners, or Spotify just taking over Last.fm.

It's simply fun to track your listening habits, especially when it comes with recommendations to other artists, genres of music, festivals and other venues that will feature the same music that you listen to, etc.

There's more to Last.fm than just tracking play counts, though it is the corner stone of the site.
With over 60 million user accounts, tracking music plays is more popular than you would think.
