Sony would be huge for her, although people praised how XL handled the promotion for 21. Honestly, they did great promoting the album (except for the last few singles). The biggest benefit Adele will get out of this deal will be the tour, right? Anyways... I'm fine with a January release for the album, but I do really hope to God we at least get the single this year. I'd be fine with her sticking to her usual release schedule if we get the single this year.

Also... I was just watching this video again: http://www.grammy.com/videos/adele-w...um-of-the-year. I honestly cry every time I watch this video.

What if since XL has all the rights on the new material, they won't let her take it with her if she leaves the label now? It's a common safe practice! She might have to start the project all over again

I'm assuming she also has rights though, or even thought ahead and has all the rights herself and planned to license it out for promotion like she did with Skyfall. It is to no benefit to XL to keep the songs back if they no longer have the artist that made them, and would create extreme bad blood between XL and Adele, her cowriters who already put work in as well, and Sony (including Columbia) between whom we're assuming there isn't any currently.

We had a case few years ago with a singer who left her label, and that label took everything from her, because of the right that they had. She disappears for few years and came back as an independent artist with new music and her own TV channel! But it wasn't the same as before because her old label had the rights on all of her materials and they banned all of it from airing on radio, TV etc. One of our biggest artists, became no one in the blink of an eye! Few other artists followed her path and they are also no one's right now!

I don't think that XL will go that far, because they are indie label, but Adele's lawyers better secure her

I'm fine with Adele leaving XL and signing with Sony now. Most because the fact that I'll have more chance of going to a concert of her. She'll sell well in any record label if the album has the timeless and versatile appeal that ''21'' had, imo.

I thought about that, too. Actually, it was reported throughout the summer of 2013 (especially in June) that Adele was seen entering various buildings in New York City, including the Sony building and a recording studio where she is rumored to have recorded a duet with Beyoncé. My guess would be that she was having meetings there because Sony owns Columbia Records, and I think she was also in town in order to honor Rob Stringer at that lunch where she was photographed with Jay-Z and John Legend.
