Her pop work was bigger and more successful, and her R&B-esque songs aren't generic.

And she actually rapped well on her R&B influenced songs (RTM, RBMS, M4L)

The same reason why she wouldn't get backlash for freestyles/battle rap but she would if she decided to do metal rock or bango country...although not traditionally what Onika is known for but its a component of the urban culture.

She wouldn't get as much backlash if her pop music was superior.
When you change lanes you have to be even better. You can't just use dated pop tracks that Rihanna, Kesha and Katy would have done but decided not to. Which is why she needs to be an excellent actor not just a decent actor (Madonna, Beyonce and Justin) to be accepted and taking seriously (Queen latifah/Janet/barbra)

i'd like the next single to be 17 minutes. very lyrical. i want a feature from rita ora's grandfather. i want it to be a mixture of 5 different genres - hip hop, pop, r&b, death metal and classical. but it also has to be a club banger. and i want it to be produced by the guy who produced allison golds song chinese food.

I think they are aware of Monster...Moment for life...Did it on em...boss azz bish.

Now I agree that her next single needs to be lyrical as they are not aware that she has a lyrical single out at the moment but she definitely has people talking which was the point.

Yeah let's hope this single will get her that male acclaim the way chi raq. I swear when I was in NYC my bday weekend I heard 2 different chi raq versions bumping from cars like it was the spring time. I think one was the game and i can't recall the other version. I'd like that for her again.

The "GP" doesn't care about lyrical Rap songs unless you're Eminem. Nicki has her own loyal audience.

They say the same for all female artists especially Rihanna. And when was the last hip-hop hit "lyrically" a beast. As long as she serves that on the album, she'll be fine. The urban crowd know about Monster, Chi-Raq, DIOE, Flawless, LAN.
