It just the amount of viewers in the 18-49 age range.

This number is important because the higher the number the more money advertisers are willing to pay to put their commercials on during the show.

More money for the network means renewal for our fave shows.

By the way, awesome episode, but not as intriguing as Asylum's or Coven's premiere...
