The internet is obviously the primary factor in ratings decline but there are also not many shows that garner as much widespread interest as those (and Friends, which also got over 50 million viewers for its finale).
The biggest shows nowadays among the youth are on HBO, Shotime, AMC, etc....all premium channels. The shows on the big 4 networks are quite bland for the most part. Although "The Big Bang Theory" pulls almost 20 million viewers weekly, which isn't much less than what Friends used to do on a weekly basis.
