The 3DS one lacks certain options such as stamina matches, special matches (300%, Giant battle, etc.) , you can't change the frequency that the items appear at. There's no tournament mode, there are no event matches, there is no adventure type mode , you can't change the songs that appear in a stage , and some other minor features that have been in the game since Melee. It has the minimum classic, all star, and regular matches but that's about it.

Still a great game though, but it can't replace what the console versions had.
