Perform maybe. But not sing. There were black girls with thin, baby voices before her. Aaliyah, Janet, Diana Ross being the most prominent. Diana got alot of sh*t for her voice not being strong enough in her time but she/Supremes made the baby voice pitched up pop records thing happen.

Rihanna doesn't even really even have a soft voice or small range. Her voice is actually quite resonant, it's just not pleasant.
