Forgive me if my law knowledge has faded, but I'm pretty sure that, in US civil cases, parties are allowed to counter-sue the accusing parties for expenses the lawsuit falls through. I'm pretty sure this isn't new.

They didn't even arrive at a settlement. Rebecca F.'s accusations flat-out failed and blew up in her face.

I don't get why she's mentioning DJWS when he had nothing to do with Judas aside from a bonus track remix. RedOne wrote and produced it with Gaga.

I don't know much about US law but I'm pretty sure having the losing party pay the winning side is pretty common in civil cases. She shouldn't have tried challenging Gaga with such a weak case to begin with.

Gaga may well have not known that this was somebody else's material...but Rebecca F had right to sue if she felt it was her material, and was used without her permission.

I think she's referring to the fact her case was up against a large corporate brand.

She's also not disputing that it blew up in her face. Her response isn't about her losing the plagiarism case.

I did read her statement. And it's all a bunch of whiney "poor me" jibberish, now that she has lost. She knew what she was doing & the Judge was smarter than her & called her out on her BS.

Also, the way she is talking about Gaga & other individuals associated with Gaga in her statement is very unprofessional & distasteful, so she shouldn't even expect any form of sympathy from anyone.

Gaga did the right thing by suing her back. Now this sets an example for ANY person out there, who think they can just sue celebrities for no actual reason but to just quickly make money. And there are alot of people out there like that.

Don't waste the court's valuable time with your vile ambitions.

Rebecca F. had a fair chance to prove her case in the court of law, failed, and is now bitter and upset that she has to pay the other party for legal expenses spent defending against her false accusations.

I'll cede that the bolded phrase is conjecture, but the rest has already been proven. Don't know why you're trying it. Of course there's behind-the-scenes information we won't find out, but Rebecca F. was not able to prove in court that Lady Gaga plagiarized her song (which is an extremely serious accusation), and is objecting to having to pay Gaga's expenses for defending herself. That much is fact.

She said in her statement that her boyfriend was the one who had the beat and sent the song to Gaga. Why would she then sue Gaga for what she claim was theft and not her ex-boyfriend. It is pretty much safe to assume Gaga did not know about her mixer's personal life. She was clearly trying to get as much money as she could, she failed, and now she has to pay Gaga's Lawyers. Now she will know better for next time.

She can't sue her for defamation. She would need to prove that the bad things Rebecca F said about her, caused her financial loss. Seeing someone isn't a money making scheme, you need to prove you suffered loss. - Given the fact gaga's legal team had a gag order on the case, defamation would be very hard to prove.

But yes, I don't really agree with the way you put the rest but I agree with most of what you said.

Oh, Its VERY common. Many people immediately counter sue the other party & demand that their legal fees be paid back, after they have won the case.

I agree with StephenNYMonster. Not only did Rebecca F. surely know what she was doing when she filed the lawsuit against Gaga, but she chose the wrong person to sue by what she says in her own statement, and likely chose her target based on the amount of money to gain. Why sue the person who was guilty (if anyone was guilty to begin with) when you can sue the person that you might be able to get money from?
