HDD are based purely on projections from retailers. of course, Billboard uses Nielsen which has a lot more coverage of retailers than HDD. and since HDD are just based on statistical projections, always expect a small amount of marginal error in their projection
Ah, I see. Thank you.
Is it safe to assume they'll be pretty accurate, though?

Yes they usually are.
When the thing happened, HDD said Barbra sold 176k and Paramore 185k but Billboard said Barbra sold 180k and Paramore 175k, that's why we really need to wait for Billboard's article

yes, they are. but if in HDD, the difference is like less than 5k between two positions there's a possibility that their positions are gonna change in the final report of Nielsen.
we're not in the clear yet, if Barb has sold 7000 copies through her site she still might take the lead

Be patient guys. iTunes is not fully reported yet (see 5SOS #s and the absence of Meghan Trainor) and Chesney had quite a lead there.
I think iTunes is in already, that's why the Amnesia EP is charting, no? I mean, it's an EP for a single so I don't think it could sell that much if iTunes wasn't counted yet

I think only a portion is counted since the EP was estimated to sell I think 35-45k.
