Cheek to Cheek” sounds like a retreat; it’s plenty desperate, but in a way that suggests she’s merely run out of ideas for the moment and wants to cover it up with borrowed prestige.
It's still incredible to me how Gwen was able to turn her era around after What You Waiting For barely hit the charts at all in the States. She kind of just threw things in the air and hoped something latched and it latched hard. Don't really like how much singles she has because only a few were successful but it means more music videos (which she is always great at - both by herself and ND).

Gaga may be a compulsive liar but I mostly believe she just had fun doing this album.
