Except not really. Here's an example.
Brandy has 2 Number Ond hits & has spent a total of 15 weeks at number one. Divide 15 by 2 & you get what? 7.5. Keep that number in mind.
Katy has 9 number ones with a total of 33 weeks at number one. Divide 33 by 9 & you get 3.6 average weeks at number one.
Brandy has had a bigger average of weeks at number one, so she MUST be more successful than Katy, at least according to your logic.

Obviously if Katy has two decently selling albums added up & divided by 2, the average will be bigger than Rihanna's added up sales divided by 3. But anyway...

Sis I'm starting to pity your logic. Average is;
2+2=4/2=2 - that's average for two numbers.
2+2+2=6/3=2 - that's another average for 3 numbers.
The point is that, Katy is outselling her that's why she has bigger AVERAGE, now if Rih has sold more than Katy, then her AVERAGE will be bigger despite releasing 3 albums. Which clearly means that "AVERAGE album sales" are more effective way of computing success!

And, are we sure that Loud outsold TD?

Okay, I didn't tell Katy to release in 2013. This is a discussion about the decade & who's more successful this decade.not "OMG you can only compare albums to other albums that were released in the same year". Anyway, Rihanna has, in fact, sold more albums than Katy WW. & has been more successful outside of music. As for the receipts to Loud selling 6 million & TD not selling 6 million, both can be found on the internet, and even atrl. Probably even in this thread.

Your analogy doesn't make sense. We're talking about sales, not weeks at number one. That average just proves that Brandy's average of weeks at #1 is bigger than Katy's. Does that make her more successful? No. Does Katy having a bigger average album/singles sales than Rihanna's make Katy more successful? Yes.

Sistren as much as I love and respect you, I would like to know why are you ONLY stressing on album sales? Album sales are not the only factor of commercial success as a recording artist. And average is average and it's always fair as it's the mean of everything.

Rihanna. Her music and videos are truly more memorable than Perry's sugar coated fest.

Girl, I'm talking about averages, the analogy makes sense. The analogy proves that with a smaller divisor, you will (90% of the time) get a bigger number than someone with a bigger divisor. That's the point.
Anyway, rihanna has cumulatively sold more albums than Katy.

Her sugar coated singles sell more, stream more, and are more remembered.

TD sold more than 6m, don't even do it.
Katy has a better album average.
Katy has better singles sales.
Katy WILL have a bigger tour gross.
But ok, hold on those fashion receipts I guess. Rihanna is better as a model than as a musician anyway, can't deny that.

This is about commercial success and not about impact or memorability of the music of each artists.

Because that's the only thing Katy Kats are attempting to dispute.

What do fashion awards and a few collaboration Grammy awards have to do with commercial success?

Sis, we Kats get that Rihanna has bigger overall success, but this thread has a different case, it's 2010's onwards which is pretty hard to decided, that's why we're debating!
Anyways, Katy's stats this decade is much more impressive!
