Moore, hot off her best actress win at the Cannes Film Festival, hosted a tea to celebrate her friend Jackson, who was recently nominated for the best actress in a play Tony for her performance as Lena Younger opposite Denzel Washington in "A Raisin in the Sun." At the event, Moore toasted Jackson with personal remarks and remarks from First Lady Michelle Obama, and Jackson herself then took the mic. (New York, 5/27/14)

If Jane hadn’t taken you in, what do you think would’ve been your fate?
The person I am today would not exist. I would have not known anything better than to reflect the community I lived in. Early pregnancy, defensiveness, under-education, violent dysfunctional relationships, drugs, alcohol, poor health… I didn’t have the necessary role models to pull me up. My world would have been incredibly limited. My belief in my value and potential? Nonexistent. Without the occurrence of some other dramatic twist of fate I would be just another lost girl living in survival mode.
You know what irks me about Emma Watson's speech? While I agree with 96 percent of it, she never focused on ACTUAL big issues. They were all first world problems if anything. Like, women can't even drive let alone show their faces in some countries. Some countries still practice rituals were a women must be impregnated before adulthood.
She needs to focus on THAT ****
Not meant to be directed at you, but I'm so sick of people complaining about other people fighting for good causes. We can play the game of x sucks more than y until the end of time, but does that mean both don't deserve attention? Let people place their attention where they think the issues are, and if you believe another issue is more important, fight for that issue without berating others for their well-aimed actions.
There is a lengthy Time opinion article circling that is bashing Emma Watson for contributing to the gender binary and ignoring and thereby damaging the position of non-binary people who "experience intersectional opressions, like racism, transphobia, and fatphobia". It criticizes Watson for making feminism more palatable, questions whether she's "earned her place" as a feminist, and goes so far as to question and exclude the efforts of what it calls "mainstream feminists".
Without getting into it much, this culture of shaming people doing "good" but not "enough good" or "the right good" is sickening, and it's not hard to imagine why some well-aimed causes like feminism and gender equality for non-binaries get shrouded in misunderstanding and negativity.

San Diego — Sony will follow up last year’s high-resolution audio marketing campaign with a cross-promotional campaign featuring two high-resolution products and the Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga album “Cheek To Cheek.”
The new campaign launched Sept. 23 and will run through early 2015. It targets 23 million impressions with a mix of digital and print advertising in both music- and audio-centric publications and research portals.

I know you said this isnt directed at me, but I never did any of this I'm just saying I hope she focuses on the bigger issues. It's obvious that a women not being able to show her face by governing forces in a country is a bigger issue then "OMG THEY'RE OBJECTIFYING ME BECAUSE IM DANCING SEXUALLY AT A BAR!!!". I love what she is fighting for, I just hope she doesn't pussyfoot around and just keep retweeting men with #heforshe on their foreheads in marker.

And what has Hanoi done for gay rights?
And gays in the industry?

Take a look at Julianne Moore's incredible filmography and it's pretty easy to notice a trend: The woman is a serious favorite of queer filmmakers (and her of them): Todd Haynes ("Safe," "Far From Heaven"), Gus Van Sant ("Psycho"), Stephen Daldry ("The Hours"), Tom Kalin ("Savage Grace"), Tom Ford ("A Single Man"), Lisa Cholodenko ("The Kids Are All Right") and Kimberly Peirce ("Carrie") all gave Moore some of her notable roles, and it didn't go unnoticed.
Her performance in Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland's "Still Alice" is nothing short of stunning, and now Sony Pictures Classics has smartly picked it up and placed it in this year's Oscar race. It's hard to imagine it not getting a nomination, and it's definitely the most-likely-to-succeed for the win at this point. And it would be not one but two queer folks -- professional and romantic partners Glatzer and Westmoreland -- that get her the prize.
A note from Katy:
Thanks to Staples & DonorsChoose.org for helping to #MakeRoarHappen by supporting 144,439 teachers & students & raising $2.5M!!! I’m so proud of YOU, KatyCats, for supporting #MakeRoarHappen & I’m proud that I get to shine my light on something truly impactful.
If you actually believe Beyoncé is a feminist--I mean truly believe she is making a difference for women--you deserve to have each of your fingers cut off slowly with a rusty box cutter; then your toes; then have each of your organs removed likewise. You are too blatantly half-witted to be allowed to live.
Is it really that difficult to understand that provocative dancing exists because men (and P!nk) like it? There is NO justifying it, even if you're making money from it because the demand is there only because of MEN. That in and of itself is innately contrary to everything feminism is about. Just STFU.
Meh. She's a pop star who uses the feminist title to stay in good graces with a more liberal audience and justify singing about ****ing her husband in the backseat of a limo. I doubt she'd be able to name any leaders of the feminist movement or bother to go to bat for that group if confronted by any blatant sexism/misogyny.
What's really sad is most of the Hive being so quick to **** shame every one else's fave but scream about feminism in defense of any and everything Bey does.
Oh, Julianne is in a Harvey Milk inspired video? That's cute.

Coco Peru also pointed out Fonda's role in campaigning alongside Milk, the first openly gay public official in the United States, even helping him to defeat the notoriously anti-gay Briggs initiative.

You missed the entire point and are doing exactly what his post said now. There's always a "bigger issue" you could talk about. If she actually talked about women not being able to show their face you could say "Why isn't she focusing on women that are being mutilated!" And then if she talkd about that "Why is she talking abouy female circumcision? There's more important things that affect more women!" One person can't speak about every issue. Criticizing someone doing good because you think there's a different good they should talk about instead is inane.
