You can craft a successful career in multiple disciplines as a female with minimal talent as long as you meet the societal expectations, e.g. beauty.

The same is true for males, but to a lesser extent. Male talent is able to naturally be showcased to society because the inventory is less focused on harsher judgments. Though, it does help if said male is attractive.

Ugly men have a much better shot at still being successful and famous than an ugly woman, assuming both were equally talented.

Or maybe it's because males are pushed to be mechanically inventive from a younger age with toys and gadgets while females are pushed to be pretty little princesses. Boys get remote control choppers for Xmas and PS3's while little girls get inanimate dolls and Easy Bake Ovens is the closest to tech they get.

It's not just about talent but also having the opportunity and ambition to get your talent in front of the world. If you look at books that's one area where women's talents can shine because they can just sit home and write. Some of the biggest properties of the last 15 years (Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games, Gone Girl, Divergent, 50 Shades, etc) were created by women.
