Almost every year the most basic and trashy and basically written ballad gets chart exposure because teen girls have their heart broken for the first time.
Turn Back the Hands of Time by Rkelly back then, Grenade by Bruno Mars and All of Me by John Legend are cringeworthy songs and yet have had success.
