I took it as her saying it's a shame that in order to get the public/media to pay attention to an artist's new project, the artist has to do something very unconventional and surprising. She wants word of mouth by other celebs and media to be the reason an album sparks the interest of the public. The Adele effect, essentially.

There have only been a few notable acts to release something in unconventional ways. She was talking about Beyonce and all of those acts. But it doesn't matter if it was a general statement or if she was talking one particular act. She is the last person to shade and nitpick over unconventional ways of releasing music or keeping people interested in the artist. Her career was BUILT on that mentality. She didn't become a superstar because of her music. And pop music is no different than what it was six years ago when people started to care about her. Her speaking like a has-been and a time machine bitch - it's embarrassing.
