Well, if I wanted to bury her career, I'd release the flat, uneventful, fan favorite Legendary Lovers.
It's probably the least smash worthy song on the album, I don't understand where some fellow Kats got the idea of it smashing from.

I have been PERCHED to this thread since day 1 and I usually don't say much cause I think it will get lost among the craziness and just get ignored, but after closely following Katy since the release of freaking "Ur So Gay" I feel EXTREMELY pleased she chose "Birthday" and "This Is How We Do" as singles for PRISM.
Don't wanna talk much about the past but assuming Katy was influenced by the short Pharrell-led Disco revival of the past year, it made perfect sense to give "Birthday" a try, especially considering the A-list producers behind it. "Birthday" is a top quality pure pop track that absolutely deserved to become a Katy classic, even if Katy's + her team's ideas for its promo (AKA its video theme) were not executed in the most ideal way. (Same thing with "Unconditionally" where I was surprised it had to find views on its own as opposed to having a VEVO ad on its release week which arguably could've pushed it into the BB Top 10 considering the additional streaming points).
As to "This Is How We Do", you can tell its all part of Max Martin's new "phase" following his Pop-Rock / Dance productions of the past 10 years. Its production is quite detailed and beautifully arranged in my opinion, and it seems to have been a great single choice within the context of summertime in her biggest markets. And even if it didn't appeal much to her target audience, you can tell its visuals definitely were a driving force in generating more attention from other segments of the market.
Looking into the future and considering Katy's huge concern about the content of her material given her age (which I personally don't find that huge of a deal) I have always rooted for the idea of releasing "It Takes Two". Stargate's productions tend to perform VERY well on the charts, and it is definitely a way more "adult" sound that caters to the same people who loved P!nk's "Just Give Me a Reason", especially if it were to be reworked with Bruno Mars, a collaboration I've always hoped to happen. And even if this doesn't end up happening, I fully support the release of either LL or WOA, with a slight preference for WOA given the current "trend".
