Christina released an album with no hits, Shakira alienated her core Hispanic audience by becoming too sexual , Fergie/Gwen/Nelly simply abandoned Earth for several years, Madonna was pushing 25+ years of non-stop mainstream relevance at that point so things were bound to start slowing down, Kelly Clarkson is somehow still relevant...

PCD were the only ones who really tried with their second album and still flopped.

the oldest FULL era i remember is probably future sex/love sounds. sexyback is the reason i switched from radio disney to pop radio

but i remember a lot of smash hits from 2004-2006 as well. i remember yeah!, hollaback girl, the big kelly clarkson hits, and other songs slaying

hips don't lie was huge as well. it dominated summer 2006 along with promiscuous, deja vu, and a lot of ratchet dance songs

i remember britney being EVERYWHERE in like 2001. my cousin was obsessed with her. i've known about britney for as long as i can remember

Hmm if this is the new demographic breakdown on ATRL then it's no surprise some people are really confused about how things were back then, like when people mention that Beyonce used to be B-list compared to Britney in the first half of the 00s, or that Justin T not bombing to infinity after NSYNC is basically because of Britney and some people refuse to believe it.

I still don't get where all those sales came from with Britney/Christina/N'Sync/Backstreet Boys. I still feel that their appeal was limited, but they were doing a million+ first week and selling a gazillion records. They all have poor catalog sales and low radio airplay now, too. TRL was such a devil during that period.

The first era I remember is honestly the Dangerously In Love era, and it was kinda connected with the Destiny Fulfilled era for me since it was only a year later. My stanning for Beyst started with Destiny's Child. I also really remember the Emancipation era.

Nelly is such a queen. She speaks Portuguese fluently and everytime she releases an album she comes to Brasil and spends a month going to every TV show, performing. She's such a sweetheart here, so different from what she looks in the US.

I was pretty young when TRL was massive but even then I remember how important they were.

They were tastemakers in a huge way, their cosign really helped songs/popstars

all an artist had to do was show up and easily sell 300+ first week.
