Transy University student paper on their viral hit and how it came to be
Two years ago, Transylvania’s Delta Sigma Phi chapter made a parody video of Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit song “Call Me Maybe” as inspired by Harvard University’s baseball team. The video has hit around 80,000 views since then.
Three days ago, junior member Barton Lynch published a video of the chapter doing a lip dub to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” onto his YouTube channel.
The video has already garnered almost 123,000 views and has been picked up by online buzz sites like Buzzfeed, Total Frat Move and Total Sorority Move. It has also been covered by local news networks like WLEX.
“(Junior) Jared (Brewington) and I were swimming this summer and just thought it would be funny,” Lynch said.
The planning for the video took a couple of days, according to Lynch.
“We got everyone together Saturday night and got it done,” he said.
The video took a few tries, but the final product is done in one shot.
Total Frat Move nominated the video for a feature they have called “Fail Friday,” their weekly post about something they deem embarrassing or negative for a fraternity.
As the song goes, “The haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate…”
