I've never really understood the U2 hate. I suppose it's because they're immensely successful, but it's a shame because they've always seemed like an unassuming, consistent, and adventurous band to me.

And it's been in or around the top 100 since.

Maybe I don't pay attention to the charts much, but I was shocked that Imagine Dragons' album sold over two million copies in the US.

It's bandwagon mentality. "One", "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" and "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" are perfect songs.

It really is, and it's not limited to this forum. Hipsters and indie music publications despise them. It's just strange because they're immensely successful, but not in an in-your-face way like a major pop star or even like the Beatles. So it seems strange that they provoke such bias.

p.s. Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For is like the greatest stadium song ever.

I suppose. I appreciate that they've experimented repeatedly throughout their career though, and the pinnacle of their creative output and experimentation came while they were enjoying major commercial success and sustained it, which is pretty cool.

Coldplay have had the same problem. They were critical favorites and indie fans loved them. Then their music became more and more middle-of-the-road and they started to pander to the lowest common denominator. That's when their critical support started to slowly decline and their hipster cred went away.
