PRISM wouldn't have been in any better situation today if Roar was still a Lead Single with changes for the rest of the singles.

Dark Horse needed to be the Lead Single. It overshadowed the rest of this era and it was taking off no matter what. The only way that mess wouldn't have repeated is if it was a Lead Single and all of it's power was then.

+ 'Roar' is a perfect example, along with 'Born This Way' and 'We Are Never Getting Back Together' of a Pop Girl @ their height of their career releasing anything and going #1 off the hype. Nothing special about that song.

Dark Horse didn't overshadow it though. It's barely outsold it to date in the US (and hasn't globally), and that's only because it appeals to more formats with distinct listener bases.

It was a 3rd single and still surpassed Roar's success in US, is coming close WW, was a single during Winter / Spring compared to Roar being a Q4 single, and is only behind 'Happy' WW this year. It's success was huge, especially coming off Unconditionally. The fact it was able to take off US and WW before being a single stands enough gratification.

& it appealing to more formats is even more of a reason it would be a better Lead Single, so idgi?
