I suppose I just think good kid, m.A.A.d city, Random Access Memories, and Modern Vampires of The City are all similar in that regard. None of them is revolutionary, but they're all masterfully executed.
I think Random Access Memories will suffer the most of those three in the long-run, because people will decide its initial acclaim was given out of guilt from overlooking Discovery upon release. It was by far the most successful, and we know they like that.
Poor Modern Vampires of the City didn't even get a nomination.
