Army keeps forgetting 2011 had high ratings only because Bey announced her pregnancy on the red carpet and the peak was during her performance. Navy also keeps forgetting that the year Rihanna opened with had very low ratings.
It's obvious that if it wasn't for Queen Beyoncé, 2014's show would've got like 5M viewers.
You also keep forgetting that:

Imagine this year's show in that condition!!!
Disaster!!!
2013.
First performance of lady gaga's first single .
First performance of katy perry's first single.
Justin timberlake with nsync reunion.
Kanye west
Drake
Miely cyrus
Ronin thinke
Bruno mars
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Compare them to 2014.
With a lineup like this it should have done much better than 10M though. The public is over the VMAs.
this is all so stupid. i never ever believed certain stars attract more viewers. like how can anyone prove which star attracted the most viewers? it can't be proved.
It was a HUGE deal. IT broke RECORDS. There were 8000 tweets perSECOND for god's sakes.
But aren't Twitter records claimed to be irrelevant to the Hive? That's what I kept hearing when other artists and not Bey were consistently topping social media charts.
honestly it was an awful show, I was trying to watch it for beyonces performance, but just decided I'll find it when it's posted online & turned the show off.

MTV didn't hype **** for Britney. They REFUSED to let Britney perform to save the ratings.
The viewers came in after Beyonce announced her pregnancy on the red carpet, which was BEFORE THE SHOW.
no one knew beyonce would be announcing her pregnancy on the red carpet beforehand so this makes no sense. And you must have selective memory because Britney was hyped just as much as Beyonce, she actually made a few versions of commercials advertising her tribute.
and lol if you actually believe that it was MTV who didn't want Britney to perform rather than her own decision, please.
Beyonce's star power is what created hype in 2011, allowing for the highest ratings in a minute. Bitin 2014, when the entire show is focused on her, Beyoncé's star power is not enough to even beat 2008's ratings ?!
