There were actually rumors about Bey having a huge annohncement before the red carpet even started. It could have had an effect on the viewership.
And the average amount of viewers is totaled: so many could have tuned in to watch after people started talking about Miley's performance (when she had just started).
One can never tell with these things so assuming one person is responsible for total viewership is very very silly.
