VMAs 2014: Taylor Swift 'Shake It Off' Performance Keeps It Classy With 1920s Inspired Set
After a wild performance from Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and Jessie J to kick off the 2014 MTV VMAs, newly rebranded pop megastar Taylor Swift kept things classy, by offering up the live debut of her lead 1989 single "Shake it Off."
Dressed in a silver fringed two piece outfit, Swift looked far, far classier than her red carpet look, with her blonde hair and bright red lips perfectly complimenting the vintage vibes of her outfit.
Backed by a swarm of similarly classy suited men, Swift deviated from her controversial "Shake It Off" music video by keeping it to one dance style: jazz.
Backed by a vintage giant "1989," Swift nailed her vocals throughout the performance, though she showed her true quirky self at one point. Though it seemed as though she was destined to jump off the "1989" following the song's sassy spoken refrain, Swift refused in what may or may not have been an improvised moment. Citing the Nicki Minaj "Anaconda" dancer incident, Swift proclaimed that she would not, in fact, be jumping into her dancer's burly arms and would instead be running back down the stairs to finish her gig.
Classic Swift.
