Pitchfork's Top 100 Albums of 2010s (Albums I Have Listened To In Full So Far):
#1, #2, #3, #6, #8, #9, #12, #19, #22, #36, #39, #41, #43, #46, #67, #89
My thoughts on Kendrick Lamar's 'good kid, m.A.A.d city':
So, I have never listened to a Kendrick Lamar album or track before (outside of his appearance on 'Take Care' and "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe" feat. Lady Gaga) so yeah, I had not idea really what to expect. **** though, I am so glad I chose to go through this list (Haha, I don't really know how many times I'm going to say this, but damn) because this album was so worth listening to. Kendrick proves through this record that he has the capability to become the greatest rap artist of the 2010s. He is on a track to greatness, it's going to be difficult to keep this level of quality up, but I hope he does. The standouts for me were "Sherane", "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe", "The Art of Peer Pressure", "Money Trees", "Poetic Justice", "Swimming Pools", "Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst", and "Real". It's a little too difficult for me to pick just one favorite, so I will just say that "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe", "Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst", and "Real" are my favorite songs. This album is a modern classic, and I cannot wait to see where Kendrick goes from here.

Great album! I think I may prefer the Lady Gaga version of "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe," but it's a great album wither way. I kind of go through periods of getting really into Swimming Pools and Poetic Justice.
How'd you think of the last track by the way? I've heard a lot of people don't like Compton

Yeah, I'm probably a bit biased, but I also like the Lady Gaga version slightly better, but that song is incredible either way.
I thought the last song was one of the weaker songs, especially after listening to "Real", which I felt was an incredible closer. "Compton" just feels so unnecessary to me, I mean it was not so bad that it took away from my overall enjoyment of the album, but it just seemed kind of placed there, without any real purpose.

My thoughts on Jessie Ware's 'Devotion':
After listening to a few albums on this list that represent an array of different genres, I was searching for an album that I thought would sound a bit safer and more pop sounding, which 'Devotion' definitely is, but in the greatest way possible. Her vocals are simply impeccable, and flow superbly on every track. The standouts were "Wildest Moments", "Running", "Night Light", "Swan Song", "Sweet Talk", "If You're Never Gonna Move", "Taking In Water", and "Imagine It Was Us". So yeah... basically the entire album. Haha. All the tracks flow into one another so perfectly, but are still defined enough in their own identity to make each of them simply a joy to listen to. 'Devotion" is an album that will satisfy anyone's desires to listen to a nice catchy pop record, but with the extra experimental and artistic flare that still gives it its own identity. It's brilliant.

Devotion is an amazing album. Something Inside, Devotion, Night Light, No To Love and Wildest Moments are everything.

Y'all's thoughts on Deafheaven's "Sunbather"? Last year's most acclaimed album according to Metacritic. I never thought I would like death metal.

Queen Björk has such good reviews, even for Volta
Other albums you MUST hear - Treats, Reign Of Terror, Kala, Arular, Visions, Paramore, Pure Heroine, BEYONCÉ, Fever To Tell, Its Blitz!, Show Your Bones, Crystal Castles I, II and III, Lungs, Shrines by Purity Ring...
MY TASTE
Is Vampire Weekend actually that good?

Yes! All of their albums are simply brilliant. If you love a more pop sound, then you should listen to Contra first, if you don't care then just listen to MVOTC first and be slated by its brilliance. Every track is just its own slice of heaven. I only listened to it for the first time a few days ago and I have already played the **** out of it. You have to listen!

I like the idea of this thread.
But girl, how have you never listened to Vampire Weekend, Kendrick, and Jessie before? Where have you been?

Lost in the messy depths of mainstream music. I was so close-minded. I am trying to recover from all the time I wasted now.
I am glad you like the thread though and hope to see more of your posts in it!

#1, #2, #3, #6, #8, #9, #12, #15, #19, #22, #36, #39, #41, #43, #46, #67, #76, #89
My thoughts on Grimes' 'Visions':
HOLY ****! That is probably the most informal way to start a "review" ever, but that was literally what I said after listening to this album a few times in a row. I am literally in love with this woman! Her style and flow on this album are simply infections, almost to the point where it is unbearable because it is so addicting. This is the first time I have ever listened to any of Grimes' work and I am beyond impressed at this point. The standouts for me were "Genesis", "Oblivion", "Eight", "Circumambient", "Vowels = space and time", "Be A Body", "Colour of Moonlight", "Nightmusic", "Skin", and "Know the Way".... yeah might as well say the whole damn album because damn. My favorite track is "Vowels = space and time". Her vocals are simply gorgeous on every track. Grimes is an artist to look out for definitely, and she has the capability to be one of the best artists of this decade and possibly all time if she does not lose focus. What a brilliant album, and what a brilliant artist. This is a bit off topic, but how the **** did Pitchfork put this behind Take Care? Haha.

Pitchfork's Top 100 Albums of 2010s (Albums I Have Listened To In Full So Far):
#1, #2, #3, #6, #8, #9, #12, #15], #19, #22, #36, #39, #41, #43, #46, #55, #67, #76, #89
My thoughts on Andy Stott's 'Luxury Problems':
'Luxury Problems' is not a bad album by any means, and it feels like it knows exactly what it wants to be, but what that is, is inundating at times. It is an album that will drown you in electronic darkness, and even make you feel like you are suffocating at times. It is obviously meant to be an atmospheric album, as every track immerses you in itself immensely, but what I am immersed in is not something that I really love or desire to be in. Many of the tracks simply drag on, and seemingly focus too much on an atmospheric sound that feels tiresome to listen to. At points, some of the tracks felt like they were sucking the energy out of me. However, I did find a few of the tracks special and really quite brilliant. "Numb" has a beautiful aura to it that makes it simply beautiful to behold. "Lost and Found" works brilliantly with the darkness of the production and the high pitched vocals. "Luxury Problems" shows us creaks of light in the darkness from above in a marvelous way, and "Leaving" was filled with some of the most beautiful and crisp vocals I have ever heard on an electronic album. The problem with 'Luxury Problems' is not that it includes elements of darkness throughout, the problem is that it dwells on these moments and suffocates the listener with them. I would recommend listening to the diamonds, and ignoring the rough in this case.
Soundcloud link if anyone is interested as this album is not available on Spotify: https://soundcloud.com/modernlove/01-numb

Yeah, if I could pick one flaw in gkmc it would be having Compton on the end. I think the album would have been a lot more poignant ending on his mother's answer phone message about her telling him where the keys are, what he should do for his city etc.
Fundamentally it's not a bad track, but Real is probably my favourite on mAAd city and it's a better jump-off point for a future project.
And as much as people rave aboht Vampire Weekend I categorically cannot get into them. I just don't think they're my taste

n let's not act like these people are household names, I'm sure most people on atrl haven't listened to them.

I do listen to Visions sometimes, Be A Body is a masterpiece, but I've never fully gotten into her. I think it's because I can't really understand what she's singing, I have the same problem with iamamiwhoami
I haven't heard the other.

Oh, well that's good to hear! There's nothing wrong with being mainstream, it's just that mainstream music has gradually suffered a total collapse in quality over the years. Anyway, I'll recommend this:

Sharon Van Etten - Are We There
I think it's my favorite of the year so far. It's kind of like cathedral, folksy sadcore. I know that may not sound super appealing, but it really is amazing. I would say if you don't mind some drama and immensity, then definitely give it a spin.

Well of course they aren't, but I was surprised because it's not like Vampire Weekend and Kendrick Lamar are underground anymore. They've both recently experienced their fair share of respective mainstream success.
