If Taylor slays the VMAs there's no reason why she can't push 700k first week with "Shake It Off" and break the digital record... unless I'm missing something big. Does the pre-order of the album (with the instant grat single) count towards sales?

But she'll have few hours left after her performance. The boost will be noticeable in next week.
To be honest, if she really wants to go pop, she just can release a lead pop single that is not as generic as Shake It Off. Yes, it was a good song -- the horns and its message -- but I think she could have a pop song that has mature lyrics. SIO was just WANEGBT 2.0, but only having horns instead of synthesized guitars. They both dissing someone, with WANEGBT on her another ex while SIO on her haters. Both songs were aimed to be annoying. They also has the same song structure! Especially on the bridge were she both sang long "ohhs" before the final chorus (all her MM songs actually).
I know there will be songs that is better than SIO in 1989 but having MM for almost 3/4 of the album really make me nervous.
It seems that she's maturing backward to be honest. Well, she's just 24 anyway.
