I think it was a very good choice, because it introduces the new album and era perfectly, she knew that going pop officially is going to get people talking. What is her response to that? The lead single. She does NOT care.
It's the perfect introduction to the new era because it shows a confident Taylor, who is not afraid of anything and who is not afraid of looking like a fool between the crowds. Simply, she is being herself.
I don't know what would have been better than this introduction to the era.
Give me those emotions, Taylor.
