I understand that it's scary, but honestly, if Taylor kept on doing the same style, then the songs would have kept sounding the same. Would you want to have 5 albums sharing the same style? In order to stay successful, artists have to re-invent and develop and push themselves. Max might not be the best lyricist but he is a GENIUS composer and his talent is something that is being taught to producers around the world. Taylor must have learned SO much about song structure, melodies, vocals while working with him.
While it's true that she could have gone Alternative or Folk, but if she doesn't do this fun music now, when will she? When she's 50? It's like you're asking a young person to not travel, have fun, dance, experiment and do everything they're supposed to do. When her commercial career starts to fade away, she will then focus on being more artistic. If I were Taylor, I would have done all of what she's done.
And lets not get ahead of ourselves. She's still way more unique than Katy Perry.
