Part of Me was the last female song to debut at #1.
The last songs to get close to doing it were Roar & Problem. Roar just went against one of the biggest hits of the decade while it still had record-breaking airplay and over 200K sales, while Problem not getting to #1 is entirely because her label put up the lyric video a little too late in the 1st week.
I think Taylor will pull off the #1 debut though. Rude is no Blurred Lines.
I'm listening to LP1 now and I'm only on track two but I've heard a few of her songs on youtube and Nicole is kinda right, a lot of her music tuneless. It's very pretty but like.. there's no melody.
Debuting at #1 isn't really important in the grand scheme of things. A lot of #1 debuts weren't even amongst the top 5 biggest songs the year they were released.
It's not really, but I think it's cool when it happens. At least it shakes up the charts a bit.

I like that she let's other instruments have the melody in some of her music. The upright bass during the chorus of Lights On is so damn sexy.
Video Girl, Kicks, and Give Up have really pretty vocal melodies.
I'm afraid to listen to twigs because I feel like I'm not going to like her music. Melody is so important but people act like it's not necessary. y'all stay gassing up songs that sound empty and boring
