Although I don't think Bonnie wrote TD almost entirely by herself. I remember hearing / reading somewhere that they re-wrote the track three or four times before Dr. Luke banned them from working on the song anymore... but Bonnie worked on it anyway and came to them last-minute and showed them her version of the chorus, which everyone loved. But Katy definitely wrote the verses and the bridge with Bonnie.
Anyway, she seriously needs to smash. I'm sure even her weakest demos that won't see the light of day could be a pop SMASH in the right hands.

Well, "almost entirely" might be a little bit of an exaggeration, but I do recall interviews where she talks about "giving" it to Katy as though it was her favorite item in a collection, kinda. I think she had a lot of it done and maybe a whole song written with some big changes made later on, you know? Either way, Katy and Luke working on it brought out all the magic and made it a perfect song!
She's just got the perfect ear for pop songs. The Luke/Martin production vibe and the general sounds of other producers she works with (sometimes indirectly) might become sort of dated one day down the road (though I love it so much), but her style is timeless. I can see "American Girl" being that song I play to revisit my youth when I'm like 50.
