well, most entertainers come with false pretenses and fictional fairytale/ sob stories.
but considering madonna was neither a greedy stage parent's showpony or a rich kid (like Gags) we can assume she actually worked her way up to the top.
and we can tell because she doesn't get freaked by failure or decide to quit pop music every time she gets a flop single.
