Did the Missy Elliot remix of "Last Friday Night" actually help the song go #1 though? I thought it was just the power of the MV going viral which helped give the song exposure...
Anyway, I'd totally be here for an Iggy or Nicki remix of "This Is How We Do".
It spent 2 weeks at #1, in its 2nd week the remix contributed almost nothing, so it would've been #1 either way
Not really since it got the #1 on its own the second week.

Yeah, that's basically what I thought. But for the first week, did the remix contribute a substantial amount of points which would have made it not #1 if it wasn't released? Either way she would have gotten #1 from that second week though, as you said... remix bonus don't generally carry across two weeks, so that's why I always thought that it was a hit in its own right. Thanks!
This Is How We Do should get a remix AFTER it hits #1... you know, just to extend its longevity.

Its been 3 years so I might be making stuff up, but I think I remember the remix accounted for 25% of its sales the first week and less than 1% the second

Yeah well no wonder Missy wasn't credited on the charts... 25% isn't much really. Katy got that #1 hit on her own. Plus, it was #2 for ages, and PRA was fading... it was always going to happen.
I feel the same will happen with "This Is How We Do" and whatever song is #1... it may linger around the Top 10 for a while, but it WILL get there.
