He created a brand for himself by creating the illusion that he is above it all. His stans have bought into it and worship him as if he is royalty.

That brand is based on how he selectively interacts with the GP, including his stans. He doesn't tweet or really use social media, rarely does interviews, almost never has any candid episodes. It's all very controlled and managed, even when he pretends that it isn't in those awful documentaries.

In Bernard his case, perception has become a bit of reality because his stans are happy to shell out $500 to see him imitate gay sex acts with his husband and give those grating vocals. All validated by his bank account, as they never fail to remind us.
