What we are lacking today is a bonafide superstar. Nobody out there is actually trying to get people interested in pop music. As untalented and stupid Gaga is right now, at least she was able to stir things up and get people interested in pop music. Heck even Miley Cyrus got people excited about pop music from July - October. Nowadays everyone is just latching onto trends for success or they're stanning for Youtube/Vine celebrities

I blame WFL and Animals by Martin Garrix for the EDM craze of the last two years that's been so devastating to the pop scene
