Not really. An award loses prestige and meaning the moment it's given to someone unworthy. I don't oppose them giving it to Pepcé though, she's certainly far more deserving than JT.
Let's not forget though that this is the VMAs, the actual awards have never had any importance. People only care about the performances.

Tbh Beyonce deserves the award for Single Ladies alone. But MTV gives out the award based on actually deserving it + publicized comebacks. JT only got his because of 20/20 and it truly wasn't deserved. They don't actually care about the videos, they just want big stars to come and steal the show.
If Gaga was actually relevant, I would say she'd be getting it next year. But you have to be cared about for more than five years to receive this type of award hehe.
