The only members whose “taste” sometimes matters to me are like the Clumps and Cap10Planets who post things outside of top 40 that I wouldn’t otherwise know about (since I listen to a lot of top 40, I don't need to be told what's good there).

No, if someone automatically doesn't like songs they don't understand, then it means they care more about the words than the music, so that means the pleasure they receive from music alone is relatively low, which in turn means they can't judge it as well as others, i.e. their music taste is worse.
