Of course they feed the footage to the big screens, but the point is they are capturing all that footage anyway and recording it. So it would not take much work to cut a Tour DVD from all that footage. It's a way to make more money from something they have already produced (the concert).
Seems a bit silly not to make a DVD because it makes the label money, fans who could not attend like to buy one to be there vicariously, and fans who did attend like to buy one because it brings back memories and they want to see if they are featured in any footage.
The Speak Now World Tour DVD, did OK didn't it? It had sold about 350k in the US alone by end of 2011. That is half of what Artpop sold!
