Let's be realistic: matching the peak of "Birthday" would be great as long as album sales don't drop drastically. A few remixes will be serviced to radio, but none so far come close to the radio-friendliness of the Cash Cash remix of "Birthday." If you put out a dance remix (as opposed to the same song produced by the same people and featuring a rapper), publishing credits for the original writers and producers are greatly diminished, so there's much less incentive on the artist's part to want to push it as the primary vehicle for the song. Of course, radio could take a remix, run with it, and stop playing the original, but that doesn't happen often with dance remixes.

Most of her core audience already has the album, so the song itself--as opposed to the artist's goodwill she has built up based on prior singles--needs not only maximum exposure via airplay and streaming, but also to appeal to an even broader demographic than usual. The song is going to need all the purchases and streams it can get from casual and non-fans to be a hit. Since there wasn't an early surge in downloads after the video release, airplay is even more crucial, so good radio research (callout and MScores) will be much more important for this single than the last.

Yeah if she doesn't do the VMAs the only other thing i can think of is that Iheart thing in September.

She needs to reserve November (EMAs/AMAs) for LL.

I'm feeling the remixes though.

I mean I think she wanted this released for other reasons outside of chart positions.

I do hope that it at least clears top 20 but we will see.
