I knew EDM producers can remix any song they like as like as long as they're not selling it (or can they?), but are there any laws against snatching someone else's song and shoehorning yourself into it for public consumption?
Like I know any ol' body can record a cover of whatever and upload it at free will, but if someone uploads the artist's version of the track they can be forced to take it down, no?

Yes.
EDM remixes and hip-hop remixes/mixtapes are kind of a grey area actually. It's still using copyrighted material even if you aren't selling it.
