I can't imagine you were around when she debuted, otherwise you'd remember that it was never "cool" to like her and that everyone thought she was ugly, a man, and "just another talentless popstar". I wasn't even a fan then I remember people saying that about her. The fanbase she solidified during BTW is the reason she will continue to be relevant for years to come. Some of you need a break from ATRL 'cause you're allowing this site to skew your opinions way too much.

I don't think so. Like I said, that's the biggest group of her base that's slowly (or quickly) turning their backs on her.
Why do you always have to talk like you're above everyone here? I know very well about Gaga and her fanbase because I've been a part of it for 6 ****ing years. When she was just breaking through with Just Dance and doing the club circuit and about to release The Fame, she was cool, and she was polarizing ... but people loved her. Sure, there were some people that were like "one hit wonder," but the majority of hardcore pop fans back then were like "Just Dance is cool, but there's even better stuff on the album" and "this chick is gonna be around for a long time," and "This Gaga girl is the next big thing." She was cute, she was spunky, she was completely unique and different from anything that was being offered in pop music at the time.
And then, as I said, once she finally broke through and Poker Face became a hit and her album was selling like hot cakes, the rumors started coming out and people started ragging on her. And that was when all the middle and high schools kids started getting into her and loving her singles, and she really was cool back then. I can speak for this because I was in high school then. People loved Gaga and they loved Poker Face and Just Dance and Paparazzi, and eventually Bad Romance and Telephone. I don't give a **** what the press was saying and what rumors she had, she was the it girl and she was cool to like back then.
But that slowly wore off by the end of TFM era, and BTW killed it completely. It wasn't cool to like Gaga anymore. It wasn't cool to have BTW on your iPod, even though she still had a lot of people who were interested in her and liked her music. And now, it just seems like no one really cares or even knows she has new music out. You're absolutely right, she solidified a strong fanbase during BTW, but it, for the most part, wasn't the fanbase she began gathering during TF and TFM. BTW made a lot of her original twenty-something fans who followed her in the clubs and watched her rise to fame run away. Does she still have a lot of older fans? Of course, she always will, but her main fanbase of gay middle and high schoolers are a lot easier to impress and pander to than the young adult/older gay and straight, male and female, fans that I at least know from my experience on forums with them back in the day.
That's my take on it. That's my experience.
