Kworb, we have several types of insurance here, should the government cover all those expenses too? Don't you realize that if you provide a person everything, you will remove all initiative for them to want to try and achieve a better life? I have a feeling this is a foreign concept to you, but this is what we call the "American dream." I'm not trying to patronize you because I think you're incredibly smart and insightful, but you seem to be missing the point that people in America thrive on challenging themselves and earning their keep. If government covers all of people's necessities, what incentive is there to work and earn money and take part in the work force?
It all boils down to that phrase..."Would you rather give a man a fish? Or teach him how to fish?"
I never said they aren't putting in effort. that wasn't what I was talking about. I was just making a general statement that the government should provide only basic health needs (i.e. disaster relief) to its citizens, but more extensive coverage should be the responsibility of the people themselves.
