In many ways, Whitney is the most incomplete artist in this top ten. She was never allowed to write, and it took her years to sing the music she actually listened to. What she was seen as, from the very beginning, was the "perfect" package: a young girl with the face and body of a model and the voice of a young soul goddess. That's what we got, and that's what changed the world. Her beauty was almost inhuman, and the voice was supernatural. She never got to show us her, and for that, though, we'll always have to wonder.
