That's not true. The 1960s is one of the most-celebrated times in music history and plenty of the artists that competed with, overlapped with, or directly influenced the Beatles are still cherished and highly regarded: The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beach Boys, The Velvet Underground, Jimi Hendrix, The Kinks, The Doors, James Brown, Pink Floyd, Elvis, CCR, etc.

The only ones I've actually learned about were Elvis, James Brown (funk), The Rolling Stones (Rock n Roll) & Bob Dylan (Rock).
The Beatles are without a doubt the ones that have had an importance. 8th Grade Social Studies, we actually spent an entire week learning about them. Their importance is not worth an entire week dedicated to them.
Maybe they're just overrated where I'm from because High School had so many damn people thinking they liked "real" music just cause they were a fan of the Beatles.
Yes they're legends, but they're not the most important musicians of all time.
