They definitely wouldn't have lost money on Unconditionally and Birthday. They were still Top 20 hits and Unconditionally even scanned platinum.

I'm sure the GP will love it, but how can they if they don't ever hear it on the radio? This is a mess and it's not FAIR.
I know it hasn't hit the adds date just yet, but as others have said, there really should be some pre-adds date spins. I don't know whether it's just because it's a fifth single or whatever, but I'm trying to stay calm and think, "It's fine, the adds date isn't here yet, it doesn't need any plays. Any plays would just be extra." But this is getting ridiculous. I think radios are rebelling against her.

I'm sure they will. Album is still selling and I'm sure this era has already earned a lot to her label so they could release more. I mean it's not like PRISM is a total commercial flop that made her label to lose millions

This is true, but it gets to a point when pushing out singles is just not viable anymore, and that point will be reached in TIHWD under-performs. In addition, if TIHWD flops, it'll just show that the public has moved on from this album and there will be no point in continuing. Count their blessings and focus on the tour for now.

They definitely would have. It can cost up to a million just to push a song to radio, then another couple hundred thousand for a video, a load for promotion, etc. This means a song has to sell a **** load to even cover costs, let alone profit. Labels don't make that much money from music anyways, which is why artists tour.

Katy's team knows what they're doing... if they listen to her fans they'll end up releasing It Takes Two or Double Rainbow and I'm sure those songs are not going to be more successful than TIHWD, IMO the worst mistake an artist can make is listening to fans instead of the GP.

Katy is really privileged when it comes to radio support and her fan base have been spoiled. now that she is at her 5th single off an album ppl are having meltdowns if theyre arnt any spns before the add day? take it easy. this song will be a slow burner. I have a feeling it will sell 1.7 million US copies or even 2millionwith the right mv and release tactice. this will do good.just relax

Gaga listened to her fans, she got a major flop. (G.U.Y.)

the video for Birthday must have cost 1000$ or so
it just had secret cameras, make up artists and a few extras

That's probably true, actually. So I guess they didn't wanna spend too many Dark Horse coins on that single.
