It won't. Enough people are nostalgic for the structure.
A bit of a shame, because about 40% of artists working today would be better off just releasing singles constantly, therefore allocating more resources to those and none to filler tracks.
Like, The Saturdays are worthless for album tracks. They should just release singles constantly until they have enough to bundle into a "greatest hits" or something. I can think of a few mainstream acts who would really benefit from that sort of business model.
