ARTPOP did "okay". The melodrama is so unnecessary.
What we're seeing with the pop girls latest releases is that success is largely based on perception, not reality. With the way people carry on, you'd think that BEYONCE, Prism and Bangerz were shifting millions effortlessly, whilst ARTPOP dragged its feet at the other end of the spectrum. Even to stan world it's surprising that there's only a few million between the top and bottom.
The good thing about this is that Gaga's success (and lack thereof) is based on perception...and perception can be altered. It's harder to alter reality - i.e. having another album sell TFM or BTW numbers.
