Not saying ARTPOP is revolutionary or anything, but it does have some songs that are quite "out there" and that's something Katy's team would never let her do. I don't think Katy will ever face the type of backlash Gaga faced simply because a) people don't care enough and b) she doesn't piss people off because she plays it safe. If backlash does occur, it'll probably just be because of underperforming singles and it'll only last for a little while without it becoming a huge fuss. Katy's fine as long as she continues following trends.

I wouldn't call ARTPOP "risky". Like, the theme she was going for is, but that theme isn't really reflected in the music. There are risky songs, however, such as 'Swine', which dabbles in a melody that we've never heard from Gaga and isn't very popular in the pop world, and 'Venus', which has so many hooks that it's almost hard to listen to.

We'll never get songs like that from Katy, or anything similar in terms of verging off the path of what's popular on the charts.
